Unusually for Lexus, the New 2027 GX has a dramatic facelift. There has never been a generation of this brand’s vehicles that looked so drastically different from the one before it, borrowing nothing at all from its predecessor. Although it still fits nicely with the proportions of this bigger SUV, the distinctive spindle grille has been shrunk in the same odd fashion as it was on the wildly successful RX.
This iteration’s style is just as divisive as the previous one, which has long been criticized for its contentious nature. While its masculine and strong appearance is undeniable, its attraction may not be as widespread as it once was. There is no mistaking that this is an updated version of the previous SUV; however, it is still very much a successor to the original. The body-on-frame design, constant four-wheel drive, and sleek, flip-up rear window are all hallmarks of the vehicle. Although Lexus claims the GX can pull 3,629 kg (8,000 lb) to 4,111 kg (9,063 lb) depending on accessories, this test did not include any towing. Along with a complete package of sophisticated safety features, including lane-keeping assistance, a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available.
All sorts of off-road goodies are standard on all Overtrail grades. Adaptive suspension and electronic kinetic suspension are among them. The latter now has the capability to detach the front sway bar, much like the former does on the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Along with the remainder of the range, they are available in a five-passenger configuration as well.

However, the GX’s toughness is its sole purpose. From the looks of it, this SUV is ready for any kind of journey, whether it be real or metaphorical. Perhaps the most startling aspect of the redesigned Lexus GX is not the dramatic makeover but the significant hike in pricing. The most expensive Executive trim level of the previous model was about $20,000 less expensive than the new one, coming in at $87,550 before freight and taxes. There are a lot more features for the price, but it’s still a decent amount.
Lexus has tagged the Overtrail grade at $92,500, while the Overtrail+, which comes with massage front seats and other amenities, costs $101,850, is even more exorbitant. (The Executive model costs about $106,000.)
