Exterior and Interior

Despite their size, these upscale luxury cars are far less practical than comparably luxurious sport utility vehicles. Still, both vehicles have huge trunks, and while the LS 500’s baggage space is somewhat larger (481 L against 444 L), the Genesis’ trunk has a wider opening and is higher, allowing it to swallow heavier objects than the Lexus.

The power ratings for these two high-end automobiles are somewhat deceiving. The G90’s 5.0L V8 has a little edge over the LS 500’s twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6. Nonetheless, the difference in horsepower between 416 and 420 has little practical significance, especially given that both of these vehicles weigh.

The LS 500 is rather speedy, and in a drag race, it would probably edge out the G90 if such behavior wasn’t so disrespectful. The Lexus delivers particularly strong mid-range punch. However, the throttle response and gearing of the 10-speed automated transmission make the LS 500 seem slow from a stop. For decades, the LS has been known for its smooth wave of power rather than its neck-snapping approach to acceleration. The G90 does not tether its passengers to the seatbacks, but it feels more eager to accelerate from a standstill. What the LS 500’s V6 lacks in smoothness, the G90’s V8 makes up for in fuel economy. The same is true for the highway ratings (8.7 vs 10.1) and the combination rating (11.1 versus 12.8). Even yet, both of these vehicles are rather efficient, particularly when compared to many of their luxury SUV contemporaries.

At more than $140,000 before taxes, this LS 500 tester competes directly with BMW and Mercedes, both of which feature V8 engines. As a result, Genesis has emerged as the segment’s value leader. At $89,750 base price, the G90 is a true value in the class, and there are no pricey option packages to purchase because it comes equipped with everything the brand provides. When you add in five years of free maintenance and concierge services, the Genesis value is unbeatable.

Lexus has spent decades establishing and reinforcing its well-deserved reputation for uncompromising build quality and remarkable longevity. Having had two, I’ve witnessed firsthand how even pioneering technology like adaptive cruise control continue to function as if new after more than 15 years of use.
